January 5 Trip To Cotubic
The Men’s Group continued its run of spending the first Saturday of every month working at Camp Cotubic. Seven guys made the trip, leaving at around 7AM and returning around 6 PM. Work continued on the staff house that has been the focus for our church this year.
This time we continued to work on the two bathrooms. We had to remove once again remove the shower/tub unit to fix the plumbing in one bathroom. That involved lifting the unit up to the ceiling and supporting it there while we did the work. It was too big to get out the door so that was the only option available. It took awhile to get the plumbing done and get everything back in place. Then we were able to finish putting in the sub-floor and repairing one of the walls.
The other bathroom is farther along and we were able to do a lot more in there. We got the sub-floor in as well as all of the paneling for the walls. In addition, we got the new light fixture in and got the lavatory partially assembled. Next up will be painting the ceiling, putting in the linoleum, and installing the finish trim. Then we will be ready to put in the final fixtures for that bathroom.
It was nice to leave the camp looking better than we found it this time. The last few trips involved demolition so it always ended up looking worse. We plan on heading back on February 2nd. If you would like to join us please let Rob or Kevin know.

Sometimes a little motivation goes along way. One of the phrases that can be very motivating is, “The cement truck will be here in 20 minutes.” The debate about how things should be done dies down. Shovels, pick axes and rakes get picked up. Forms get hammered into place. And the levels may be looked at a little less critically. Ears perk up at the sound of any truck that passes by and usually a little sooner than everyone was hoping for the truck finally arrives.
The guys from the Men’s Group worked hard and fast on June 24th in an effort to get everything done. Everything fell into place and the result was an outstanding new sidewalk along the side of the fellowship hall. Not only will the sidewalk keep water away from the building but it will make it easier to get to the steps in the winter time. The job got done, nobody was hurt and the guys enjoyed a little time together.
The Men’s Group meets on the first Wednesday of every month. We often take “field trips” to the homes of members to learn something new. We also try to get together on the third weekend of the month but that time is usually a little more flexible. We have a great time together and every man is invited. Keep your ears open and join us at our next meeting.
With the old roof off we were able to determine what sheeting needed to be replaced. It wasn’t long before we were ready to start putting on the new shingles.
After lunch a little rethinking meant pulling the rubber roof back off for another try. With the arrival of some expertise things went much better this time and before long the flat roof was finished.
