Kicking Off Missions Month

Last Sunday was great. Well, it was for me, Pastor Tom. I was at a conference where we had a great time of worship. But everyone says we had a great time of worship here at ZUB too!

Now it is on to February and our annual Missions Month! I’m excited about Missions Month because we have a lot of great things planned. This coming Sunday we are going to focus our attention on the para-church organizations we support. We’re glad there are organizations out there who specialize in one area of ministry and can focus all their skill, expertise and resources in an efficient manner.

In light of it also being Super Bowl Sunday we are going to have a field goal kicking contest at church. The field goal kicker is probably the most maligned player on the field since all he does is trot onto the field every now and then and kick the ball. Except for the rare occasion he doesn’t tackle, block, pass or do anything that the rest of the team does. Let’s face it, he is the one player that rarely makes contact with other players and football is a contact sport. It’s no wonder they get so much ridicule.

But kickers have something no one else on the team does. They have expertise in kicking field goals and that is crucial to the outcome of the game. They are focused on doing one thing and doing it well. They might not practice, train, or look like the other players on the team but they are absolutely necessary. Just like those organizations we support that are making a kingdom difference in the world.

You also won’t want to miss the rest of Missions Month.
