Love God, Love Others
Most of us like things simple. I have a couple of friends who are experts in computer networking technology. The last thing you want to do is ask them too many questions about their field of expertise. It won’t be long before they will be talking over your head. We don’t speak the same language when talking about computer networking. They don’t like it when I refer to “that little thingy.” But I like things simple.
Depending on how you count, the Old Testament has over 600 laws. That could get a little overwhelming. It is good to study these laws as they teach us about God and how he wants us to live. But Jesus put these laws in plain language for us.
Jesus said that we are to first of all love God with everything that we’ve got. Then love others. He said all the other laws hang on these two laws. This simplifies things quite a bit but it also motivates us to keep God’s laws for the right reasons.
This year we are going to focus on these two laws. They are typically referred to as “The Great Commandment.” Learn them, practice them, and let them become who you are.
