The Reeds

Yesterday at church we had Joe & Natalie Reed share about their vision for serving in South Africa. Natalie grew up in our church though she was in her senior year of high school when I got here so you can’t blame me for any bad influence. Actually she had, and still has, a sweet spirit. They also had son Ezra and daughter Keziah along. Cute kids.

They did a great job sharing about their dreams. Natalie did a good job explaining the personal journey side of the story and Joe communicated well about the work they are going to be doing. They ended with a question and answer time. I think they thought there would be more questions but I thought it was a good response. For some reason people feel strange asking a lot of questions on Sunday morning.

I’m glad it went well because up until they spoke it seemed a little dead. That happens sometimes but I’m not sure why. It’s like everyone went to a really good party the night before and would rather have slept in a little longer. In the end it was a good day.

Sunday Worship, Camp Cotubic, and the Super Bowl Party

What a great day at our worship service yesterday. We sang a new song (for us) entitled “Rain Down” by Martin Smith & Stuart Garrard. I love that song as I find it really speaks to my heart right now. We had 91 people join us for worship and the nursery was bursting at the seams. Along with “Rain Down” we also sang “How Can I Keep From Singing?,” “How Great is Our God,” Eagles Wings,” and “Take My Life.”

Dave Stephens was our guest speaker to kick off our Month of Missions. Dave is the Director at Camp Cotubic. Our church has been strong supporters of the camp for many years now and it was great to hear Dave tell stories of the impact the camp is making on young lives every year. continue

Things That Go Bump In The Night

I’ve been an insomniac for as long as I can remember. These days it is just a nuisance. But back when I was a kid it was a frightening experience.

A good portion of my childhood was spent in Africa. Let me just tell you that Africa is not a good place for insomniacs. The night is filled with shrieks, howls, and cackles from everything from tree frogs (there is one frog that is about the size of your thumb that makes one of the loudest shrieks you’ve ever heard), to fruit bats, to all kinds of other creepy crawleys. For a boy laying wide awake at night this is not a good thing. continue
