Pastor Tom Datema

Tom Datema became the pastor at ZUB in October, 1998. He is married to Kim and they have four children; Ben, Adam, Michael, and Gabby. Joining the Datema’s in the household are Myah, a Lab/Retriever mix, and Beast, the scarediest cat you will ever meet.

Tom grew up as a missionary kid in Jamaica and Sierra Leone. After earning a B.S. in Biology from Huntington University he studied Community Development and then he and Kim served in Sierra Leone as missionaries. They left Sierra Leone at the end of 1994 when their mission agency withdrew their missionaries from the country due to a rebel war. Tom entered pastoral ministry in 1995, serving as an associate pastor at the Dillman United Brethren Church in southern Wells County, Indiana. He also entered the Graduate School of Christian Ministries at Huntington University and earned an M.A. in Christian Ministry. He was ordained by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ in 1999.

Soccer has always been a favorite of Tom’s and he served as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Huntington University from 2001-2005. He also loves to read and commiserate with fellow Detroit Lions fans. Obviously he has experience in long-suffering.
